(Disclaimer: Before this story begins I would like everyone to know that its appearance on CaughtInAThought has been sanctioned and blessed by Jess (my sister and roommate) herself. Let it also be known that this occurred over a year and a half ago. Further, any references to Chinese people or NYC policemen are not meant in any derogatory way and my statements are products of 5 years of observations in this territory.) Let it begin:
The Story: after the guys (Matt and Keith) left , Jess stayed up till who knows when talking to Amanda about who knows what cuz I went to sleep. So then it's somewhere around 2 am and I've been asleep for just under 2 hours. I hear all these chinese-boy voices outside yelling and laughing and then I hear a basketball...one question, do these people have an aversion to sleep? And second question, do these people have no sense of volume-control!!!???!?!!?! So these boys are in the park playing basketball (I assume it could be Chinese Basketball... the only difference between that and American basketball is that in Chinese basketball to get points you are not required to make any baskets..just dribble the ball and toss it around and look like you know what the heck is going on.) I'm sorry I get distracted.
So this is what is going on and I'm pretty stinkin' annoyed but I know that I'm just too tired to get up and do anything about it. However Jess seems to have a solution to these perdicaments: stand at the window and yell at them in English, "Hey if you guys don't knock it off and SHUT UP I'm gonna call the cops!!!!I'm serious!!!!" This is what I hear in half-slumber...I found it rather amusing. For one thing the kids don't know what the crazy american is yelling. Whatsmore even if they did know do they really care enough to stop? NO.
So I'm going through a list of solutions in my head for Jess' light-sleeping habits: top of the list is EAR PLUGS; then get new sound-proof windows (which is a really good idea for, well now, 2:30 am); third is to knock Jess over her head with the closest blunt object because she now has me up lying in bed and pondering Chinese basketball.
But the lovely thing about Jess is that she's not a wishy-washy person, she doesn't say one thing and do another, she follows through on her promises or...er...threats....so she called the cops.
This is another thing I start to giggle to myself about. NY cops are the laziest people I've ever known. I don't believe they really care...especially if someone is disrupting your sleeping habits....what they seem to care about is food, to break simple traffic laws like stopping for red lights, every once in a while be seen carrying manly objects like guns, batons, or mace, and last but not least to laugh at the people who call up about petty disturbances. I don't know why, unless it's the lack of sleep, she expected a cop car to show up and raid the miscrients in the park, but the next morning she said very confusedly,"I called the cops and they never showed up!"
Ahhh Jess! I love living with her. We're totally opposite. For instance the mouse incident -where the mouse crawled into her hair while she was sleeping- that kept her sitting up in the living room with the lights on for half the night...as if by serving as sentry, the creature will just go away. I am, on the otherhand, way too carefree about these things...this is hightened when I'm tired. First things first: Sleep... then kill rodent.
I heard the thing in my room too, I actually turned on the light, and couldn't find it after a vigorous 1-minute visual scan of my room, so I went back to bed figuring if it climbs into bed with me...oh well! More the merrier!
hmmm but we do need to kill it..if it's not already dead. I don't like mice...they're dirty things and they reflect bad on us.

THE END
I would like it to be known that this mouse has since died as well as it's family. I sincerely apologize to those mice-lovers out there, however a girl had to do what a girl had to do.
