Me and Bobby McGee

Now I've been to many different states and being so close to Bethel-the virtual JW melting pot-we've met people from all over and with different backgrounds, thinking patterns, accents, and even differing words for the same thing.

In Minnesota and on the West Coast a soft drink was called "pop". On the East coast, it's "soda". Here in the East you call a book of coupons from the pharmacy a "circular"-elsewhere it might be a "flyer". Or a "teeter-totter" is a "see-saw" or even a "ridy-horse" (for the southerners- who by the way I believe speak a language of pure Slang English...but that's my editorial view)
Even the way you pronounce things is conflicting "Rooooooooof" vs "Ruf"; "Tawwk" vs "Tak" vs "Talk"; "Ad-VER-tisement" vs. "Adver-TISE-ment". etc etc and so on.

All of this has to do with the migratory patterns of our ancestors, region, background, and even education (sometimes the lack of it). In the case of Jodie Foster's character, Nell, it's the result of living in seclusion with a grandmother who suffered a paralyzing stroke. "Nell ta-ta da evadoas" Which meant something along the lines of "Nell hates the evil-doers".

The point of all this is that we all are taught the general language and the rest is left up for our exploration, acceptance, or superiority-complexes. It's interesting how being told, as an adult from a child, that the way you talk is funny, still creates that urge to stick out your tongue and tell them they're wrong.

Without further ado, match up the terms in the left column with the explanations in the right column. I'll give you the answers at the end of the day.

August '05 Trivia game the standings are as follows:

(14 players played during the month. )1. ninalabru (85 points, 6 wins)
2. spamtastic (75 points, 7 wins)
3. Nola (67 points, 4 wins)
4. Lyssa (49 points, 2 wins)
5. El nemesis (40 points, 4 wins)
6. Frodo (14 points, 0 wins)
7. Tinser (12 points, 0 wins)
8. candace (10 points, 2 wins)
9. wareagle (9 points, 1 wins)
10. Anika (8 points, 0 wins)

I seem to run into the same question every month...how is it that someone else WON more games than me but I got to be first place. I simply don't understand it, I'm happy for myself of course, but I'm deeply sorry that it disturbs others. And I'll be the first to tell you there is NO way to rig these trivia games. Not that I've tried :) jk.
