Thank goodness for the band of people out in the world who relish in the vinegary flavor of a soused cucumber. They have united. They have joined forces, collaborated, and conspired to arrange a day of pure heaven and culinary delight right here in the Lower Eastside of Manhattan. It's called "The Fifth Annual International Pickle Day, 2005". It's INTERNATIONAL?!? You can actually get an International Pickled Cucumber...not quite as interesting as getting an International Man of Mystery but the thrill may be a close runner-up for all my beloved people out there...the pickle-lovers .
See this is what I call a special-interest story. Ever since I was young, I fought my best friend at the time, Nicoletta, for the title of Pickle Princess. She said I could be Pickle Queen but who wants to be queen when "princess" goes with "pickle" so nicely. It rolls off the tongue much easier... like a giant Clausen Pickle fresh from the jar, dripping with vinegar and pickling spice. Graciously I allowed her to believe she was the Pickle Princess...but behind her back I called her the Freckle Princess. Yeah but I've matured these past couple years. And, yes, I just restrained myself from giving you a very long-drawn-out childhood story.
Nonetheless, pickles are culinary genius! So who wants to join me at the Pickle Festival October 2nd, 2005 11am to 4:30pm in the old Pickle District of Manhattan...another thing I never knew! THERE WAS A PICKLE DISTRICT?!?! Why isn't it still around?! I would frequent it. Keep it in business. The place would be jumpin'! Anyway, I'm having trouble finding anything about the old Pickle District besides the fact that there used to be an old Pickle District.
Congratulations to Allen and Stephanie Johnson on the birth of their baby girl. 7lbs 3.5 oz, born at 1:33am today. Name-pending.
