Gerontocracy of Notable Quotations

Famous sayings, or sayings said by famous people, are mostly taken for truth. I've compiled a list of 5 sayings by some notable figures...somethings you may have heard before. However they may strike a debatable note. Tell us if you agree, disagree, and/or why. (It's a Friday, the end of the workweek, ran out of really interesting things to do, so we fall back on this idea) You get an extra cookie for guessing who said it-and without looking it up.

  1. As the least drops of wine tinges the whole goblet So the least particle of truth colors our whole life It is never isolated or simply added as a treasure to our stock When any real progress is made we unlearn and learn anew what we thought we knew before
  2. What is written without effort is in general read without pleasure.
  3. Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.
  4. ...but you can love completely without complete understanding.
  5. If knowledge can create problems, it is not through ignorance that we can solve them.
