Last week Dad brought up a topic that got my mind turning. In the New World, we wouldn't need certain words in our vocabulary because they would describe things that had since past. So I was thinking of what possible words could we get rid of. Because my mind is sometimes slow to kick into first gear, I took out my dictionary, opened a page and found this word:
Plebe: n. a first-year cadet esp. at a US military academy.
Then there are all the inventions and whatnot that we won't need in the New System...the obvious ones being canes, glasses, wheelchairs (though we may want to keep a few around for our recreational enjoyment...I envision people racing...perhaps some off-road wheel-chairing, etc). But what else do you think we wouldn't need? Or what things have been used for the wrong purposes that we could utilize in a positive way?
For instance, dynamite. It was the start of bomb production and was purposed to deter man from using it, thus creating peace earth-wide. Of course we know that didn't happen. Instead nation used it against nation and the bombs kept getting bigger and bigger.
In the New World it could be used merely for artistic reasons. We could find out how to contain it and control it's blasting parameters so that it could be used in sculpting rather than hours and hours of chiselling. We could just hit a button and BAM! we have ourselves a beautiful marble sculpture for our front yard!
So what are your New World ideas? What can you think of that we will not need or that we will change "for good"? What words can you think of that could be permanently wiped from our vocabulary?
