A friend of ours and her husband have been living in Taiwan for the past 2 years(nearly) and this is the latest from them:"Taiwans great! We're enjoying ourselves and learning a lot. Right now it's my favorite time of year. The temp. Is a steady 20 c. I think that's about 70 f, either way I'm comfortable. Another reason this time of year is great here is because everything is starting to bloom. The hills smell like fresh palm trees and jasmin. It's also butterfly season. Which brings me to the subject of this e-mail. So, there are butterflies everywhere. I'm noticing they are not the most graceful of the flying creatures. Don't get me wrong they are amazing, but they bob up and down back and forth. Many times I've seen this before and marveled at their ability to quickly turn direction.
However, I now believe that it's just they don't know where they want to go. I believe this because I always see them do these near death flutters into peoples heads or cars. We were on the bike the other day and I saw this butterfly fluttering into the street. I knew we were going to hit it. It was flying too low bobbing up and down. Then all of a sudden it pulled up. Hit Johns helmet which then propelled it's little body into my eye! So now it's trying to hang to my eyelid for life. Until I swiped it off. I don't if it made it. The whole experience gives new meaning to butterfly kisses. They are not very pleasant.
Other than kamikaze butterflies, everything else has been pretty normal. I'm getting more and more Filipino calls and BS. We were talking with one of the brothers on the branch committee, he said the branch use to look at the English field as something they had to cope with. Now they view it as a need as great if not greater than the Chinese field. Both our Chinese and English cong. Are growing rapidly. Every assembly since we got here our Chinese congregation has at least 1 Bible student get baptized. We have our English CA in a few weeks and 3 are getting baptized from our hall. In the past 6 months 2 new congregations were formed. The harvest is certainly great."
