Scars from the Weekend

Another Holiday weekend well spent!

For Jess and I it started on Saturday morning when we met Veronica Cordoba to work the Spanish territory with the Spanish congregation. It's a thing we're trying out and going to see where it takes us. The three of us canvased an entire block from and found a few Spanish-speaking households. Jess was doing AWESOME! she had a number of conversations...and ones that weren't rehearsed. My presentation (that I never got all the way thru) was:

"Hola! Buenos Dias! Mi llamo Nina. Las personas se precoupan del cancer de la piel, verdad? (allow for response) La Desperatad halba de 'Como Protegerse Del Cancer De Piel' "

YAY! I was ready to take on the day! In the afternoon we did our English-speaking RV's. A very productive and invigorating day of service.

Later in the evening Joe, Brandon, Jess, Veronica, and I headed up to the Delaware Water Gap to meet the group for at least ONE day of camping. We arrived at about 11:30pm, set-up our tent and sat by the fire talking until about 2 am. However Sue and Nola and I were determined to stay up ALL night.

Jamie (like Hi-May) was our personal protector from bears and other creepy things and insomniac companion on our quest for the sunrise. The four of us kept awake by our regular trips to the bathrooms, the shivering cold and an alternating string of kidding around and soul-searching conversation. Finally the day dawned. Being in the "mountains", the fog would fall and lift. The sunrays shone thru the trees that encircled us. All the grass was winking with dew in the morning sun. Just so peaceful.

After our Watchtower study-36 in attendance-a group of 13 hiked the "mountain", past acres of emrald ferns under bright green trees to the lake at the top. There, Brandon, Joe, Sue, and I waded into the water...a little took off-guard when we fell about on the slippery rocks beneath the surface. Unfortunately Joe and I both cut up our feet pretty bad. Joe's toe bled more than my four cuts altogether. That didn't stop him from swimming to the other side of the lake with Chuck and Sue, though.

After those glory wounds, we hobbled back down to the campsite and everyone took a nap on the open lawn in the sun, even thru the wind storm. When we awoke, it was time for the huge dinner where all the campsites gathered together. As it got darker we went down to the river side and watched the sun turn the sky pink and grey.

Finally it was time for the last leg of, at least, our time at the campsite...the night-walk. Everyone got their partner and walked WITHOUT flashlights into the dark woods. Paul had us all gather around him and cover one eye as we gazed at a green glow stick. He relayed a story about Pirates who would wear a patch on one eye during the day so as to make their eye better able to see in the dark. If they raided a ship, the pirates would jump on board and smash all the lights because the shipmates could not see as well as the pirates who had become accustomed to the dark. Then we took our hands off our one eye and the definition of the trees and people around us was much clearer. AMAZING! Next we chewed on some spearmint lifesavers and watched them spark green in the dark. After that it was home again. Jess and I pretty much fell straight away to sleep.

There's more to the weekend but this has been long. I'll complete the weekend in the next entry.
