Nola, The Divine Miss N, Spy Gal-TOP 10

From the Desk of Ms. Gaffney

To keep in step with the every so insightful top 10 entries, I myself would like to add, my top 10 experiences of 2004...So here you go, enjoy a little trip into the recesses of my mind.

10) Conquering my fear of heights, by taking an awesome drop on the daredevil dive. Couldn't have done it without my two fellow flyers...Sarah and Tyson. And....couldn’t have done it without Vinny calling me a chicken and telling everyone they were wasting their time and I wouldn't do it. But you know what? I did. I flew and I soared. Very Very freeing experience.

9) I must concur with Jess. Ireland was very awesome and does indeed deserve a spot on the top 10 list. Accompanied by Nina, Bec, and Jess, I journeyed back to my fairy land. I learned a lot about myself, what I wanted for the future, and that....I was ready for a change. But I will never forget the wonderful two weeks I spent with the Homans, Lisa, Greggers, Paul, Si and all my other Irish friends. Good Times, Good Times. Sniffle.

8) Coinciding with my need for a change...I found a new me, nothing a little hair dye and shedding thirty pounds couldn’t fix. Yes, I am quite proud. I accomplished a lot in 12 little months. I feel great, and I'm still me. What more could I ask for?

7) My super secret surprise Graduation Party! Yes, although my mom swore I was not getting a party...she came through. YEA!!! Yes, I don’t know how my friends and family did it, but they managed to keep me surprised. And yes, you know it, I shed a tear or two or two hundred!

6) My very first trip to unassigned territory. Ah, Mingo County West Virginia! Such an odd, but exciting weekend. All the amazing people we met, people who might never have gotten to hear the truth yet. Plus all the memories we made. Our little coffee shop. Our dirt infested Motel, Shoneys…cramming into Vinny’s car for dodge ball. Which I might add, I was the last girl once. But most of all, having a great bunch of spiritual brothers and sisters, whom I love very much, working shoulder to shoulder to help where the need was great. Can’t wait for unassigned this year!

5) Vermont! Yes, although I did lose the directions…sorry Gar, we made it alive and made many memories. Joe slicing his finger open like 40 times, ping pong matches, puzzle solving, sleigh rides, watching Brandon nearly crashing through the ice, being terrorized by poopy poems, and crying over the most beautiful talk I have ever heard. And most of all, getting closer to four of my favorite people in the whole wide world, cementing the fact that we are truly a family. AND I WILL GET MY NORMAL FAMILY PHOTO! No more fingers up noses and weird faces. I mean it.

4)RFTDC’04! I have never experienced such a road trip. 10 of us girls crammed into three cars and three little rooms. Not a fight, not a nasty look, not a complaint, just 9 of the most amazing chicas I have ever met. DC is for Lovers!Fisticuffs! The Holocaust Museum was an eye opener. Yes I did cry. The spy museum…cemented my identity as Natasha Sillieskaya. But most of all I enjoyed the new bonds I’ve formed and friendships I will hold onto for years to come.

3) Speaking of amazing people, I met a whole bunch this year. Yes, true, I did mention my RFTDC girls. But who could forget….the Dellaquilas! Sarah, Abby, Mike and Matty, such an awesome family. Who could forget certain English lads, who crossed the other side of the pond, to enrich our lives, poke fun at our accents…and yes, compliment our singing voices? Good Times. Good Times!

2) It wouldn’t be a list, without mentioning the fact that I did graduate college this year. Yes, I am now a proud alumni of Katharine Gibbs College. Which believe it or not, my Grandma Barbara attended when it was just a secretarial school. I worked very hard and am not ashamed to say I graduate with grades I’m proud of. And although that rude guy beat me out for Valedictorian…at least I was nominated. I’m one of the first in my family to finish. I was pretty proud of that.

1) And the moment you’ve been waiting for…my number 1. About a year ago, I had to stop pioneering due to circumstances beyond my control…Family stuff, schedule problems, and some exhaustion. But I am proud to say that as of last September….I’m back baby! Yes that was definitely the highlight of 2004. I made a promise to myself, and Jehovah and I kept it. I’m back in the ranks of my '>fellow pioneers and I’m not going anywhere this time!
